MARZO – Avelina “Lina”

Passed away on Sunday March 20, 2022, at St. Joseph's Life Care Center in Brantford. Ontario.  She was 84 years old and is survived by her sister, Leticia and brother, Domingo, and a plethora of nieces, nephews and friends that she called family. Lina was born on October 20th, 1937 in the Philippines, to parents Marcelino and Isabel, brothers Floresto, Juanito, Genaro, Domingo and sister Leticia.  Family was always very important to Lina, even from a very early age, she worked to support her family financially through many sacrifices and hardships.  She continued to support her family throughout her life, even up until the day she died. In 1976, Lina came to Canada, got married in 1983 and moved to Brantford, Ontario.  Later, she got divorced but stayed in Brantford and became a citizen of Canada in 1986.  She worked at an electric company and TRW Carpet Company, all the while continuing to send financial support to her family back home. In 1990, Lina was diagnosed with breast cancer and battled against it and it remained in remission for many years, until 2020 when it returned more aggressively.  Lina moved into the St. Joseph's Life Care Center in 2013 where she remained until the end of her days. Over her lifetime, Lina made many friends who became her chosen family.  Two of them, were Mr. and Mrs. Carlos, which she met as a devout Catholic when she joined the Divine Mercy Group.  Lina wanted to honour her Divine Mercy Family and wanted to wear their uniform and hold the rosary when she meets God. Lina was a kind, loving and warm-hearted person who always made friends everywhere she went.  In her final moments, it was a testimony to her good-nature that many of the staff at St. Joseph's lined up and one by one, said their goodbyes and kissed her on the forehead. The family will receive friends at the McCleister Funeral Home 495 Park Road N. Brantford on Saturday April 2, 2022 from 9-10am. Funeral Liturgy will be recited in the chapel at 10 am. Cremation to follow (private family ceremony). Remembrances can be made in the form of contributions to St. Mary’s Devine Mercy Apostolate at 133 Murray Street Brantford N3S 5P8. (519)-753-7316.
