BURK - David

Born: November 21, 1931             Deceased: July 20, 2021

It is with great sadness that the family of David Burk announce his passing. He is mourned deeply by Joan, his beloved wife and best friend for 42 years. He will be always loved and missed by his children, Barbara, Vancouver: Lisanne, Abbotsford; John (Shawnalee) Portland, Or; Paul (Anita) Australia and step children Bill (Jae); Pasadena Cal; and Janice (Jim) Endicott, N.Y. He was the dear Opa to Jamie, Tyler, Angela, Hunter, Paris, Ashton, Allana, Amanda; Great Grandpa to Pharis, Micah and Samuel. David was born and raised in Toronto. He grew up loving classical music, books and anything connected with boats and water. As a young man he spent 6 summers as a counsellor at Camp Ahmek in Algonquin Park where he developed his love of nature. A master canoeist, he particularly looked forward to taking his campers on trips. With a passion for good food, he made sure the boys ate well. He was known to have the boys pick berries as he made a simple pastry, rolling it out on the bottom of a canoe with a shaft of a paddle. Filled with fresh picked berries the pies were cooked in a reflector oven in front of a campfire. During his professional life David was a business man in Brantford. His job sent him to Japan where he worked for 11 glorious years. Back in Brantford, David had many friends. He was known for his jokes, his love of entertaining and for founding an old guys croquet group that is still going strong today. One of the last things he said was: “I have had a very good life.” Because his children live far away, a celebration of his life will be held when the borders open and all the family can take his ashes up to his much-loved Canadian lakes.  Memories and condolences may be forwarded to the family at www.mccleisterfuneralhome.ca
