Obituary of Doreen St. Amand

Doreen St. Amand (Dowden) 1924 – 2020 Doreen St. Amand (nee Dowden) passed away peacefully in her 97th year, on November 13, 2020. She is survived by her brother Wally (Betty d.); her sisters-in-law Marg, Marilyn and Gail. Left to mourn are her daughters, Leslie Kitson and Janet St. Amand-Herod; and her dear sons-in-law, Gerry Kitson and Doug Herod, along with her much loved grandchildren and their partners (Katie, Bart & Jessica, Sally & Eddie and Andy & Rajvi). Born in Brantford, she raised her family in Oakville for 50 years, then moved back to Brantford and finally to Welland to be close to her daughter. Doreen was active in the Anglican Church in Brantford and Oakville and volunteered for the Oakville hospital for many years. Doreen is predeceased by her husband Arthur, and her siblings and their spouses Phyllis (Alex), Fern (Joan), Sidney (Josephine), Walt, Aubin, Jerry, Dorothy (Ross), and Don. Doreen leaves many nieces and nephews on both the Dowden and St. Amand sides of the family. Doreen’s many ways to retain strong bonds with her extended family along with her good humour, cheerfulness and caring attitude will be greatly missed by all. Many thanks to the care shown by staff where she resided over the last decade including Seasons Retirement Home Welland/Brantford and Rapelje Lodge in Welland. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the Alzheimer Society of Niagara Region or the charity of your choice. Arrangements are entrusted to McCleister Funeral Homes, 495 Park Road North, Brantford, which include the option of viewing a videotape of the funeral service.
