Obituary of Catherine Marie Burke

BURKE – Cathy Her strength was awe inspiring, her kindness genuine, and her beauty radiated from her face, her smile, her everything. On Monday, July 13, 2020, heaven received a new angel. After the most courageous two year battle with cancer, Cathy Burke (Bialas) has joined her love, her angel, Paul Burke. She passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side. Cathy’s family was an integral part of her life and she will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by parents Frank Bialas and Helen (Kowalchuck) along with her brother John Bialas and his wife Wendy, her sister Carol Giles and her husband Alan, her brother Frank (Egg) Bialas and his wife Dale, and her sister Patty DeJong and her husband Mitch. Cathy was the most amazing mother and raised two strong and dedicated children, Stephen Burke and his wife Angela and Stephanie Hampson and her husband Andrew. The greatest light that kept her going through this immense struggle was her beloved grandchildren, Ryan and Weston Burke and Evan and Clarissa Hampson. No matter what, Grandma Grandma always had time and love and smiles and goodies for her grandbabies. Another great light of hope that kept Cathy going was her second love and companion Murray Smith who stood by her side through it all. Cathy will also be in the hearts and thoughts of a long list of loving in-laws, nieces and nephews, god children, cousins, friends, and coworkers past and present. Cathy was a proud, retired laboratory technician at Hamilton Health Sciences of 15 years, worked with the Juravinski Cancer Centre Blood Team, and before that worked at Woodstock General Hospital, Brantford General Hospital and even the family printing business. Cathy truly loved her job, loved her family and loved her life. She never turned down a challenge and she fought to the very end. At her request, cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held at a later date. Warmest thanks to Juravinski Cancer Centre and Dr. Hirte, Bayshore nursing especially Eva, and the Stedman Hospice outreach team. Donations can be made to the Stedman Community Hospice (St. Joe’s Lifecare foundation) as well as McMaster Children’s Hospital. Look for the beauty in life, a garden, a butterfly, a star in the sky and Cathy will be with us always. Arrangements Entrusted to the McCLEISTER FUNERAL HOME, Brantford. McCleister 519-758-1553
