Obituary of James Yui Woon Chin

CHIN - Jim (Yui Woon) Jim was born in Guangdong, China in 1927 and died peacefully at home on July 8th, 2020 in Brantford at the age of 93. Jim had 58 wonderful years with wife Phyllis (Babsy) who died a month earlier. Deeply cherished by his children Audrey, Pat (deceased 2009) and Michelle, son-in-law Martin Suichies, grandchildren Katrina and Allison, extended family and many lifelong friends. He is predeceased by his brother Wah from Hong Kong. Jim grew up in China, farming and later working in a pottery factory. He came to Canada in the 50s to start a new life. He ran the Shanghai Restaurant with his partners Frank, Bob and Bill for many years while raising a family. He later partnered with his brother-in-law Keith and worked alongside Phyllis and his children at the Shanghai. Jim enjoyed fishing, painting and carpentry. Tending to his vegetable garden and fruit trees gave him great joy. He nurtured others by sharing his cooking and his harvest. There was nothing Jim could not fix or figure out, through creativity, ingenuity and strength of character. He lived his life simply and in his quiet, relaxed and loving ways, inspired everyone who met him. Jim died three weeks after having a stroke. Thank you to the amazing C2 staff at the BGH, the LHIN, Stedman Hospice and the VON Nurses for their exceptional kindness and end of life care. In keeping with Jim's wishes, cremation has taken place. Arrangements have been entrusted to McCLEISTER FUNERAL HOME, Brantford. A Celebration of Life will be arranged for a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to your favourite charity. Condolences and memories may be shared with the family at www.mccleisterfuneralhome.ca. McCleister 519-758-1553
