Obituary of Barbara Newsome

Barbara Newsome March 9th 1939 May 13th 2020 ______________ Our world is smaller today with the peaceful passing of our Mom, Barbara Eve Newsome on Wednesday May 13th, 2020. She was 81 years of age. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Al Newsome. Mom leaves behind her prized possessions, her children Julie Schuler (Daryle) , Craig Newsome (Katherine), Russ Newsome (Christine Pisapia) , grandchildren (Mitch, Kate, Aidan, Bree, Amelia, Jacqueline) great-grandchildren ( Reese, Kenzie, Hunter, River) , brothers Terry Dewhurst and Brian Dewhurst (predeceased) and many friends. Mom lived for her family and found simple pleasure experiencing life as it happened. She was most happy when groups came together and she could laugh and join in on the fun. She will be missed tremendously but we will keep a positive mindset and celebrate with you, as you would want us to. Through Barbara’s many accomplishments, raising her family, working in various community roles, and starting her own gardening business, she left a positive impression on everyone who knew her. She was a soft, kind, and happy person who always had the joy of life. Barbara came to Canada from England with her husband and 3 children in 1965 and lived in several places throughout Ontario before calling Brantford home. She enjoyed half-marathon running, cooking, vacations to hot weather spots, and having social family get togethers. Music was always around her, especially groups like Neil Diamond, Elvis, Rod Stewart, and the Everly Brothers. Mom lived with Alzheimer’s for ten years. She was a strong woman who struggled to maintain her independence after our Dad’s passing. Mom lived in the loving care provided by the Saint Joseph’s Lifecare Centre, Brantford for the past 4 years. Despite her illness, she maintained the ability to connect with us non-verbally over the last 2 years of her life. A good music tune or joke would have her smiling and talking to us in her own way. Special thanks to the St Joseph’s Lifecare Centre’s ‘Bluebird’ team for the loving care provided to Mom, especially during the COVID pandemic. You have touched our hearts. Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date when it safe as a community to gather. Arrangements entrusted to the McCLEISTER FUNERAL HOME, Brantford. If you would like to join us at that time, please leave condolences online at www.mccleisterfuneralhome.ca or connect with us on social media and we will contact you with details. If you would like to remember Mom, please hug your children, spend time with others and live in the moment with them. Also perhaps plant a tree or some flowers, as she was very passionate about this, and was an avid gardener. If wished, memorial donations to the St Joseph’s Lifecare Foundation would be gratefully appreciated. McCleister 519-758-1553
