Obituary of Allan Fallis

FALLIS, Allan Hartwell

The family of Al Fallis sadly announces his peaceful passing, on Sunday October 7, 2018, at the Brantford General Hospital, in his 95th year. Beloved husband for 69 years to Hazel Jessie (McIntosh). Loving dad to Joan (Lee Buffin), Nancy (Tony Iezzi), and Sandy (Steve Ostapchuk). Treasured Gramps to Melissa (Scott Abercrombie), Thomas (Erin) and Alex Ostapchuk and Jessica Iezzi. He will be sadly missed by his great grandchildren Kyle, Evan, and Owen Abercrombie. Dear brother-in-law to Myrtle Threndyle. Remembered with love by his many special nieces and nephews and his extended family Galen Nelson (Craig), Andrew Buffin (Megan), Devan Buffin and Michael Ostapchuk.

Predeceased by his parents, William and Melissa Fallis, and his siblings: Murray (Ruth), Bob (Winnie), Florence Diamond (Clarence) and James (Isobel).

Al served in WW II as a Pilot Officer in the RCAF. Following the war he attended the University of Toronto where he graduated with a B.A.Sc in Mechanical Engineering (1948). His professional engineering career began at Cockshutt Farm Equipment as a designer and concluded on the management team at Gates Canada.

He believed strongly in service to his community and was an active volunteer and board member at the Y’s Men’s Club, the United Way, Wellington Memorial United and Farringdon Independent Churches. He was a Master Mason with the Masonic Lodge Harriston and a dedicated volunteer for the Dunsdon Legion Poppy Fund.

Al’s greatest joy was time spent with family at their cottage at Cedar Terraces, Kincardine. As our family grew so did the cottage, thanks to his numerous building projects, additions, deck extensions and outbuildings. He meticulously restored and refinished every piece of furniture at the cottage; many that were family heirlooms and others purchased at farm or church auctions. He loved pushing off in the kayak for a paddle on the lake, entertaining family and friends or sharing a pre-dinner cocktail with Hazel on the deck. It will always be Dad’s special place.

A service of life and thanksgiving will be held at Farringdon Independent Church on Friday October 12, 2018.Visitation at noon followed by the service at 1:00 p.m. Family interment, after the service, at Farringdon Burial Ground. Rev. Mike Rattee officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations would be gratefully appreciated to The Brant Community Healthcare Foundation http://www.bchsysfoundation.org/memorial-gifts/ or the Kincardine and Community Healthcare Foundation www.kincardinefoundation.ca
